Sustainability and LEED Training Courses
Sustainable Building Solutions provides training courses and proven processes that
promote the integration of sustainable practices in building operations. A combination of
lecture and Web-based training offered through Old Dominion University allows SBS to
offer the industry’s best-trained sustainability/LEED professionals equipped with unique
expertise in the marketplace.
PROGRAMS Offered
LEED and Sustainability: A basic overview (2 hours)
This is an introductory level course designed for individuals who are involved in
supporting LEED projects. The information presented in this course will introduce
LEED, the rating system, ASHRAE 189.1, what LEED provides and assist individuals in
working within the LEED system.
Presentation Objectives
- An understanding of the role an Energy Management Plan (EMP) brings to a
business operation
- An understanding on how an Energy Management plan brings value to the LEED-
EB certification process
- Knowledge on how to develop and implement an energy management plan and
energy policy in any business
- An understanding why identifying energy waste in a business is critical to the
long term success of energy investments
- The role performance contractors can play in Energy Management
Business Sustainability: One Step at a Time, Pay-from-Savings (4 hours)
This training provides information on how to start sustainability initiatives within a small
business--step by step. A wide variety of issues and topics will be discussed including:
waste management, reduction of paper, energy and water conservation. Participants will
obtain a general understanding of how to develop their own sustainability plans within
their company operations.

Maximizing Energy Conservation: Developing and Implementing a Successful
Energy Management Plan (EMP) (4 Hours)
This course offers a proven strategy for superior energy management with tools and
resources to help each step of the way. Based on the successful practices of ENERGY
STAR, these guidelines for energy management can assist your organization in
improving its energy and financial performance while distinguishing your organization as
an environmental leader.

Business Sustainability: Introduction, Implementation and Savings (4 hours)
Introduction to Business Sustainability provides an overview of the basic concept
and definition of Corporate Sustainability. Business sustainability will be introduced
and the proper implementation program to insure success will be discussed in detail.
Introductions to no cost, low cost and capital investments will be discussed. Examples
of company successes and failures will be shared to cite specific examples of how
businesses can begin sustainable programs and initiatives within their own organization.
The presentation includes basic information and resources on how companies can ‘get
started’.

Introduction to LEED and LEED GA Exam Preparation (8 hours)
LEED GA has been developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)
for professionals who want to demonstrate green building knowledge. The LEED GA
credential identifies industry professionals who have basic knowledge of green design,
construction, and operations.
Passing the Green Associate exam is also your first step to becoming a LEED® Accredited Professional. The course includes a review of the LEED® rating system, and
provides many opportunities to practice tests with questions similar to those on the exam.
The course uses the Green Associate Study Guide with Green
and LEED Core Concepts along with (free) downloads from the USGBC.
