How Efficient is your LEED Compliant Building?

For nearly a decade, the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System has provided many paths to certification that have resulted in the construction of more energy-efficient building. In perhaps the most comprehensive study of the measured energy performance of LEED- certified buildings to date, the New Buildings Institute (NBI) found that the average energy use in LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations- (LEED-NC) certified buildings is 25%-30% better than the national average. However, the buildings studied also show a large variance, with one-quarter of the buildings having Energy Star ratings below 50. They will not pass recertification!
